Build Your Reputation

Online Reputation Marketing consists of 3 main components:

  1. Manage
  2. Build
    • Custom feedback pages
    • Pro-active feedback funnels
  3. Market

2. Building Your Online Reputation

90% of consumers read online reviews, but only 6% write them!

So there are a lot of reviews to be had – if only you asked for them.

Of course, like a lot of good intentions (lots of New Year’s resolutions barely last a week) it’s hard to keep at it consistently. You need tools, and a system.

  • Passive: Make feedback forms available and promote these in various ways
  • Pro-active: Actively ask your customers for feedback by email or text message, consistently

2.1. Custom Feedback Pages

You may have received feedback requests at your local supermarket, department store or restaurant.

These requests will often link to a web page that contains a form where customers can leave feedback. Often these forms guide happy customers to the review sites after they provided initial feedback (“how did we do? thumbs up or down?”) and recover unhappy customers before they share a negative experience publicly.

How to get people in such a feedback and review funnel?

Like the example shows above, you can hand out slips of paper, review cards (same size and material as business cards), you can hang up posters and stickers at your place of business, you can place a little message on your invoices and in in your email signatures. To make things easier for your customers, you can use a dedicated domain name (reviewourstore.com), shortened URL (like bit.ly/ourstore) or QR code that people can scan so they don’t have to type in the web address.

You’ll want to monitor the input into these funnels, and respond.

This is all rather passive, though, and you can get better results by

  • Asking people to “check in”
  • Sending feedback requests by email or text message, with 1-2 reminders.

2.2. Ask For Feedback By Email Or SMS

If you already have all your customers’ email address and/or mobile phone number you can also forgo the “check in” part and just bulk upload your recent customers daily/weekly to get them into your feedback and review funnel.

You Need Tools – And A System

Your online reputation is too valuable to just leave to chance, because it probably won’t reap you the results you need to be successful.

Samples

  • Check in form (signing in will start the feedback request sequence, with reminders if needed)
  • Feedback form 1 (ask for feedback first, then direct to review sites and/or complaints form)
  • Review Request Pop-up (can show as a sidebar, top bar, bottom-right pop-up of center-page pop-up)
